Welding
Welding Quard is easy and produces outstanding results.
Quard can be welded using any conventional welding method, both manually and automatically.
Due to the low carbon equivalents of Quard, preheating prior to welding is unnecessary in a thickness up to 20 mm.
On account of the tight thickness and flatness tolerances, Quard is well suited for automatic welding.
Quard can also be welded to any other weldable steel.

Bending

Quard has excellent cold forming properties, promoting new innovative solutions for lightweight design.

The excellent bending performance of Quard is achieved by:

  • low levels of non metallic inclusions
  • consistent mechanical properties
  • high crack resistance
  • tight thickness tolerances
  • excellent surface finish
  • consistent spring back
  • Numerous welding operations can be replaced by bending, resulting in a further reduction of production costs.

Cutting

Thermal or cold cutting methods can be used for Quard steel.
Thermal cutting, using either oxygen fuel, plasma or laser cutting is as easy as cutting mild steel.
Quard does not require preheating prior to thermal cutting.
Cold cutting methods, such as abrasive water jet cutting, shearing or sawing have the advantages of not thermally affecting the part being cut, thus avoiding the softening of small parts being produced.

Machining
Quard can be machined in the same way as for any martensitic wear plates of the same hardness.
For drilling, either HSS (8%Co) or indexable cemented carbide drills can be used.
Face milling and countersinking best takes place using tools with replaceable cemented carbide inserts.
For all machining operations performed on Quard, stable machines should be used in order to keep tool set-up vibrations to a minimum.

Fabrication

Bisalloy400 is high hardness, abra sion resistant steel offering very good impact toughness properties.

Bisalloy400 provides an optimum combination of abrasion resistant, toughness and weldability. Due to its low alloy content, Bisalloy400 can be readily welded using conventional welding processes and low hydrogen consumables.

Cold forming of Bisalloy400 is achievable on all thicknesses although an allowance for the higher strength should be taken into account. Bending machine capabilities should also be taken into consideration prior to any forming operation. Heating above 250ºC should be avoided, otherwise mechanical properties may be affected.

Description
Ympress is the brand name for the series of hot-rolled High-Strength Low-Alloy steel produced by TMCP (Thermal Mechanical Control Process). Through customer focus the Ympress range has been continuously improved and widened to match the increasing requirements of our customers. Ympress delivers high strength steel with consistent properties, excellent surface quality and high formability. To ensure an optimum match with standards, all grades have been designed to meet or exceed specifications conform EN 10149.

Ympress offer a wide range of strength levels between S315MC up to S700MC and a broad dimensional range with gauges between 1.5 and 20 mm and widths up to 2070 mm. Because of the wide dimensional range and the number of strength levels included in the Ympress brand, Ympress can be used for many applications ranging from construction profiles to crane booms.

Ympress Benefits

The consistency in chemical composition and production conditions provide the basis for the consistency in product properties of Ympress. Through its properties Ympress contributes to an optimum and efficient processing and high quality finished products.

  • Formability:
    The precise control of the sulphur content prevents the formation of MnS particles resulting in improved bending characteristics for Ympress. Even the use of a very small bending radius (0t) is possible for many strength levels. The guaranteed elongation levels are leading in the European industry.
  • Consistency:
    Ympress’ consistent properties and narrow gauge control ensure the same bending behaviour from sheet to sheet and from coil to coil. This reduces the intermediate setup times for tooling and increases efficiency.
  • Welding:
    The guaranteed low carbon equivalent allows Ympress to be welded trouble free with the commonly used welding methods. Pre- or post heating of the steel is therefore not necessary.
  • Galvanising:
    Most Ympress can directly be galvanised, the very low silicon content prevents the formation of surface defects by the Sandelin effect. For the highest strength levels E690TM and S700MC it is recommended to test the galvanising conditions first.
  • Laser cutting:
    For the optimisation of your laser cutting process we recommend the use of Ympress Laser. Ympress Laser is a superior product because of the low tensions in the material, the low silicon content and the extra high surface quality.
  • High surface quality:
    The low silicon content of all Ympress grades avoids the formation of so called ‘tiger stripes’ . The high quality surface can lead to fewer processing steps during manufacture.

Fabrication

The low carbon equivalent of Ympress makes it readily weldable and permits the use of high welding speeds. There is no need for pre-or post-welding treatment.

Adjacent to the weld a narrow Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) with a slightly decreased hardness is produced, however, with standard welding techniques this has no practical significance.

Tensile tests taken transverse to the weld show the same tensile strength as the parent material.

Stress relieving should be done in temperature ranges of 980° – 1080° F. Heating above this range reduces strength and should be avoided.

Application

Ympress combines high strength with excellent formability and weldability. It is used in applications such :

Characteristic

For wear and tear which is not only caused by impact and friction, we provide CREUSABRO 4800 and CREUSABRO 8000. These products have TRIP (Transformation Induced by Plasticity) character and micro carbides that make this product have an active surface resistance, so that this material can last better if there is an impact. This product o can also be used in medium temperature 250–450 C, where other resistance product which generates from water quenched process usually will not be functioning optimally.

Creusabro 4000
The new Creusabro concept-excellent ability to work harden and contribution of micro carbides-gives Creusabro 4000 high wear resistance, on average 4 times higher than ordinary mild steel and 30 % higher than conventional 4000 BHN water quenched steel.

To ease in fabricating, Creusabro 4000 is supplied by approximately 360 HB hardness. After the fabrication, the hardness of Creusabro 4000 can be reach 420 HB.

The Creusabro concept-excellent ability to work harden and the supplementary contribution of microcarbides, already used in Creusabro 4000 has been improved in the Creusabro 8000. this grade takes advantage of an additional metal working process: the TRIP effect (Transformation Induce by Plasticity). The combination of this properties give to the Creusabro 8000 an exceptional wear resistance in heavy plates with uniform properties throughout the thickness around 8 times that of the standard mild steel (A572 G65 grade). The properties in extreme conditions are 50% superior to standard water quenched steel (hardness 500HB).

Characteristic

FORA 400 is a water quenched maternistic steel, with a typical hardness of 400HB (42,5HRC), constituting a real answer to abrasive wear. Thanks to its toughness, its elevated hardness, its high yield strength, FORA 400 can be use wherever a wear resistance to wear by sliding or by moderate impacts is required. Moreover, FORA 400 is very easily welded and has a good forming properties thereby contributing to ease of fabrication.

Compared to conventional steels, such as S355, FORA 400 offers a real benefit to the equipment life times and permits a signifiant reduction in he design thickness since its wear resistance is up to 3 times longer than S355 grade.
