Quard 400 is an abrasion resistant steel with an initial hardness of 400 Brinell.

Due to its optimal combination of hardness, strength and ductility, Quard 400 can be used in any application subject to wear from various hard abrasives such as rocks, sand, minerals, scrap, waste or other aggressive materials.

Quard 400 is easy to bend, cut, machine and weld (to some extent, it’s like processing mild steel).

In all thicknesses Quard 400 provides an excellent surface finish within tight thickness tolerances, with a high-quality appearance and maximum fitting accuracy.

Fabrication

Bisalloy400 is high hardness, abra sion resistant steel offering very good impact toughness properties.

Bisalloy400 provides an optimum combination of abrasion resistant, toughness and weldability. Due to its low alloy content, Bisalloy400 can be readily welded using conventional welding processes and low hydrogen consumables.

Cold forming of Bisalloy400 is achievable on all thicknesses although an allowance for the higher strength should be taken into account. Bending machine capabilities should also be taken into consideration prior to any forming operation. Heating above 250ºC should be avoided, otherwise mechanical properties may be affected.

Fabrication

A unique chemical composition and steelmaking process for Bisalloy450 has been developed, incorporating
low carbon/low manganese contents. This is designed to improve transverse mechanical properties and produce low levels of segregation and ensures the newly developed Bisalloy450 not only has superior mechanical properties but also good formability and weldability.

Bisalloy450 can be readily welded using conventional low hydrogen MWAW and GMAW welding consum ables and processes. It can be welded to other weldable steels.

BISALLOY 450 can be cold bent by brake press-bending or roll bend method. However, Bisalloy 450 has higher hardness and strength levels compared to plain carbon steels and therefore suitable consideration of sufficient machine, plate bending direction and former radii must be made. Bisalloy450 should be bent at room temperature or below 200ºC to avoid reduction of mechanical properties.

Grades 316

Stainless steel grades 316 and 316L are also known as types 1.4401 and 1.4404 respectively. Grade 316 is an austenitic grade second only to 304 in commercial importance. 316 stainless steel contains an addition of molybdenum that gives it improved corrosion resistance. This is particularly apparent for pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments. 316L, the low carbon version of 316 stainless steel, is immune to grain boundary carbide precipitation (sensitisation). This makes it suited to use in heavy gauge (over about 6mm) welded components.

For elevated temperature applications the high carbon variant, 316H stainless steel and the stabilised grade 316Ti stainless steel should be employed. The austenitic structure of 316 stainless steel gives excellent toughness, even at cryogenic temperatures.

Property data given in this document is typical for flat rolled products covered by ASTM A240/A240M. ASTM, EN or other standards may cover products. It is reasonable to expect specifications in these standards to be similar but not necessarily identical to those given in this datasheet.

Corrosion Resistance

SUS 316 grade has excellent corrosion resistance when exposed to a range of corrosive environments and media. It is usually regarded as “marine grade” stainless steel but is not resistant to warm sea water. Warm chloride environments can cause pitting and crevice corrosion. Grade 316 is also subject to stress corrosion cracking above around 60°C.

Heat Resistance
SUS316 has good resistance to oxidation in intermittent service to 870°C and in continuous service to 925°C. However, continuous use at 425-860°C is not recommended if corrosion resistance in water is required. In this instance 316L is recommended due to its resistance to carbide precipitation. Where high strength is required at temperatures above 500°C, grade 316H is recommended.

Fabrication

Fabrication of all stainless steels should be done only with tools dedicated to stainless steel materials. Tooling and work surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned before use. These precautions are necessary to avoid cross contamination of stainless steel by easily corroded metals that may discolour the surface of the fabricated product.

Cold Working

Grade 316 is readily brake or roll formed into a variety of parts. It is also suited to stamping, heading and drawing but post work annealing is recommended to relieve internal stresses. Cold working will increase both strength and hardness of 316 stainless steel.

Hot Working

All common hot working processes can be performed on 316 stainless steel. Hot working should be avoided below 927°C. The ideal temperature range for hot working is 1149-1260°C. Post-work annealing is recommended to ensure optimum corrosion resistance.

Heat Treatment
316 stainless steel cannot be hardened by heat treatment. Solution treatment or annealing can be done by rapid cooling after heating to 1010-1120°C.

Machinability
316 stainless steel has good machinability. Machining can be enhanced using the following rules:

  • Cutting edges must be kept sharp. Dull edges cause excess work hardening.
  • Cuts should be light but deep enough to prevent work hardening by riding on the surface of the material.
  • Chip breakers should be employed to assist in ensuring swarf remains clear of the work
  • Low thermal conductivity of austenitic alloys results in heat concentrating at the cutting edges. This means coolants and lubricants are necessary and must be used in large quantities.
Welding
Fusion welding performance for 316 stainless steel is excellent both with and without fillers. Recommended filler rods and electrodes for 316 and 316L are the same as the base metal, 316 and 316L respectively. Heavy welded sections may require post-weld annealing. Grade 316Ti may be used as an alternative to 316 in heavy section welds. Oxyacetylene welding has not been found to be successful for joining of 316 stainless steel.
Stainless Steel 316Ti
Another variation of 316 is available. This variation is 316Ti. Stainless steel grade 316Ti contains a small amount of titanium. Titanium content is typically only around 0.5%. The titanium atoms stabilise the structure of the 316 at temperatures over 800°C. This prevents carbide precipitation at the grain boundaries and protects the metal from corrosion. The main advantage of 316Ti is that it can be held at higher temperatures for a longer period without sensitisation Linkprecipitation) occurring. 316Ti retains physical and mechanical properties similar to standard grades of 316.

Durinox™ offers superior and low-cost solution to carbon steels and, in many cases, to austenitic stainless steels.

Durinox™ is developed mainly for the agricultural industries where corrosion and abrasion are often the major source of cost and quality problems. It is also often the case that many of the plants in agricultural industries were originally designed with carbon steels because of its low cost. In many cases, this proved a false
economy, since carbon steel performs poorly against corrosion and abrasion.

Durinox™ stainless steels is an excellent choice for agricultural industries as it is both chemically inert in contact with food and produce and also biologically inert which reduce the risk of micro-organism colony growth.

Durinox™ offers the following benefits compared to austenitic stainless steels and carbon steel:

  • Similar thermal expansion to carbon steel and lower compared to austenitic stainless steels, and there-
    fore it distort less when heated
  • Thermal conductivity that is much higher than austenitic stainless steels
  • High temperature oxidation resistance, they are less prone to scaling
  • Its mechanical properties are very similar to carbon steel making it easy to cut and work without the need of specialized tools. They are also less prone to spring back compared austenitic stainless steels
  • It is not prone to stress corrosion cracking
  • They can be used in temperatures to up to 600°C which is far better than carbon steel and is more than
    sufficient for most agricultural industries

Creusabro 4800 & 8000

Characteristic

For wear and tear which is not only caused by impact and friction, we provide CREUSABRO 4800 and CREUSABRO 8000. These products have TRIP (Transformation Induced by Plasticity) character and micro carbides that make this product have an active surface resistance, so that this material can last better if there is an impact. This product o can also be used in medium temperature 250–450 C, where other resistance product which generates from water quenched process usually will not be functioning optimally.

Creusabro 4000
The new Creusabro concept-excellent ability to work harden and contribution of micro carbides-gives Creusabro 4000 high wear resistance, on average 4 times higher than ordinary mild steel and 30 % higher than conventional 4000 BHN water quenched steel.

To ease in fabricating, Creusabro 4000 is supplied by approximately 360 HB hardness. After the fabrication, the hardness of Creusabro 4000 can be reach 420 HB.

The Creusabro concept-excellent ability to work harden and the supplementary contribution of microcarbides, already used in Creusabro 4000 has been improved in the Creusabro 8000. this grade takes advantage of an additional metal working process: the TRIP effect (Transformation Induce by Plasticity). The combination of this properties give to the Creusabro 8000 an exceptional wear resistance in heavy plates with uniform properties throughout the thickness around 8 times that of the standard mild steel (A572 G65 grade). The properties in extreme conditions are 50% superior to standard water quenched steel (hardness 500HB).

Creusabro 8000 is supplied with the hardness of 420 HB in order to easy the fabrication. After fabrication, the hardness of Creusabro 8000 can reach 540 HB.
