Material Rongsokan jadi Pedang Bernilai Tinggi

Mengoleksi sekaligus membuat pedang merupakan hobi yang jarang ditemui. Banyak di antara pecinta pedang yang hanya membeli dari pengrajin dan tinggal memajangnya di dinding rumah.

Namun tidak bagi Zudy Wahyu Praptono. Pria 36 tahun yang sejak lama menyukai pedang ini akhirnya memutuskan untuk membuat sendiri. Untuk pertama kalinya ia membuat pisau skinner atau pisau kecil yang digunakan untuk memisahkan daging dengan kulit hewan. Ketika di-upload di Facebook, pisau buatannya itu ternyata laku terjual.

Zudy memang aktif di beberapa grub di Facebook. Mulai dari Indonesia Katana Lovers, Indonesian Blades, Forum Bilah Indonesia, Jogja Flying Metal (JFM), Krambit Indonesia Punya, Forum Kapak dan Bilah, hingga Golok Tradisional Indonesia. Hampir semua pemesan merupakan rekan Zudy di grub-grub tersebut.

Saking banyaknya pemesan, akhirnya sekitar tiga tahun lalu Zudy memutuskan berhenti sebagai pengrajin perak. Ia memilih menekuni profesi sebagai pengrajin pedang.

Sudah banyak jenis pedang yang ia produksi di rumahnya di Gedongan RT 1/RW 1 No 15 Desa Purbayan, Kota Gede, Yogya. Seperti Kerambit Minangkabau, Kukri, berbagai pedang dari Jepang seperi Katana, Wakisasi, dan Tanto, dan masih banyak lagi.

Pria tiga anak ini sengaja memilih bahan baku baja seperti SKD11. Dibanding stainless 420J2 yang memang menawarkan tesktur halus serta mengkilap, baja skd11 dinilai lebih kuat meski lebih mudah berkarat.

“Biar tidak karatan tinggal dioles Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) dua bulan sekali. Setelah itu pajang lagi,” ujarnya saat ditemui di rumahnya, beberapa waktu lalu, dikutip dari Harianjogja, Selasa (7/3/2016) malam.

Uniknya, baja yang ia gunakan sebagian besar merupakan rongsokan berupa pir truk dan laher. Setiap 1kg rongsok ia beli seharga Rp7.000.

“Tapi kalau yang pesan ingin harganya tinggi dan bagus ya saya tidak berani pakai rongsok. Saya belikan pir baru. Harganya sekitar Rp200.000-Rp300.000,” kata Zudy yang pernah dijahit 14 di telapak tangannya karena terkena goresan pedang itu.

Rata-rata, pemesan menginginkan pedang sesuai budjet. Jika pemesan ingin kualitas bagus dan berani bayar mahal, Zudy membeli bahan baku yang baru. Jika pedang hanya untuk dipajang dan hanya ingin sekedar punya, bahan rongsok pun jadi pilihan. “Sama-sama kuat, asal jeli milihnya,” katanya.

Meski pengerjaan satu katana sampai satu minggu, namun keuntungan yang diperoleh cukup menjanjikan. “Bisa lebih dari 100 persen. Modal Katana Rp500.000, jualnya bisa Rp1,5 juta,” tuturnya. Sementara untuk Kerambit dijual sekitar Rp300.000 dan Kukri sekitar Rp700.000.

Dari proses penempaan, gerinda, Hardening Temper (HT) atau sepuh, sampai finishing, ia selalu mengutamakan ketelatenan. “Yang paling lama itu finishing-nya. Harus ngasah sampai tajam dan halus. Dan saya selalu mengutamakan sudut ketajaman yang presisi,” ujar pria penggemar ular ini.

Ia tidak ingin mengecewakan pelanggan yang datang dari berbagai daerah. Di Jogja sendiri, Majelis Mujahidin Bantul adalah salah satu pelanggannya. Zudy tak sekedar menjual pedang. Ia juga selektif terhadap konsumen yang ia layani. Mengingat senjata tajam, ia sengaja tidak melayani pemesan dari kalangan anak pelajar.

Heat Treatment

Preheating:
600-850 ° 100 (1110-1560 ° F)Normally a minimum of Two preheating steps required.

Austenitizing:
100 ° 1000-1025 (1830 -1880 ° C) 1020 House usually 100 ° (1870 ° C). For a very large  Mould 1000 100 ° (1830 ° C) Recommended it.

Annealing: 
Protect the steel and heat through to 740 ° C(1365 ° F). Then cool in the furnace at 15 ° C (30 ° F)per hour to 550 ° C (1020 ° F), then freely in air.

Stress relieving: 
After rough machining the tool should be heated through to 650 ° C (1200 ° C), holding time 2 hours.Cool slowly to 500 ° C (930 ° F), then freely in air.

Tempering: 
Tempering at 250-300 ° C (480-570 ° F) results in the best combination of toughness, hardness and corrosion resistance.Holding time at that temperature is minimum 2 hours. HOWEVER, for very large molds  it is recommended to use a high tempering temperature to Reduce the residual stresses to a minimum.

Quenching:  
Interrupted oil to below 1000F (540C). Air cool to 150F (65C). Salt bath at 250–550°C, then cool in Airblast.

For all type of moulds, especially suited for larger tools where corrosion in production is unacceptable and where high surface finish is required
Molding of corrosive plastics such as PVC, Acetates and for molds that runs under humid working and storage condition, Molding of medical components such as syringes and analysis vials,etc.

Fabrication Characteristics

Machining

DC53 can typically be machined 20% to 40% faster than D2 while experiencing as much as 50% less tool wear and breakdown.

Faster feeds and speeds reduce machining cost and yielding an improved surface finish.

Wire EDM

DC53 was initially developed with the Wire EDM process in mind. The high temperature double draw 520° C (970° F) or higher was part of the development criteria in determining alloy content, and heat treat requirements for DC53. This high temperature double temper relives a considerable amount of stress in the steel which in turn minimizes movement in the part when Wire EDM cutting hardened DC53. Welding

With special care DC53 can be welded. Use any appropriate weld rod such as an H72A rod which is commonly used for high carbon, high chrome die steels similar to D2. The weld rod should be dry to prevent bubble cracks in the weld. Placing the rod in a 350 degrees Celsius (650 degrees Fahrenheit) oven for one hour is generally sufficient.
